The Best News I've Had All Year
Yesterday was a great day for hope. It was springing up all around me.
First, I went to Dad's appointment with him and the new cocktail of drugs is doing wonders - in addition to eliminating all his hair, it is working on eliminating tumors. Things were looking good. It was overwhelmingly great news.
Then, Andra and I played ball in the front yard (what most of you would call a driveway) and she was doing a good job. We had fun, and she had me running after balls all over the desert. Which led me to my final spiffy find - a yucca plant.
Last year I planted a yucca plant that promptly died. We could fill a whole plant cemetery with the things that have died or been eaten out in our front yard. But look! There are fronds! Coming up out of the dirt. There are 3 plants, and in the waning light of the day, it was one more confirmation - hope is all around us, we just have to have our eyes open for it.
Everyone has heard that hope springs eternal, well, poem of the day? The rest of it.
Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest:
The soul, uneasy and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.
-Alexander Pope,
An Essay on Man, Epistle I, 1733
Unfortunately, I think he was saying that nothing is ever good enough for us, but I am going to say that yesterday? It was good enough.
