Go West

We spent the weekend in Los Angeles for a wedding.  Here are my daily observations:

Friday:   We flew out, and as we were landing at the airport I had a moment where I thought to myself "If I had continued in L.A. as I started, I would probably be a partner, or queen of something at the very least, sigh."  And then we got on the freeway.  And I thought "Traffic!  People!  Orange Sky at night!" and I was over it.

Saturday: We picked up Grammy and Eddie and went to the J.P. Getty Museum.  I lived in L.A. for over 2 years, and I always wanted to go.  And now that I don't live there anymore, I finally went.  It was unbelievable, and in 4 or 5 hours I feel like we saw nothing.  Just the tip of the iceberg.  I think we need to go back.  Then we drove through our old neighborhood, and went to Bill and Rena's house for a lovely dinner.  The food and drink were great, second only to the company.  Unfortunately, as we were preparing to leave, Andra decided she was not feeling well and threw up.  In the kitchen, of all the perfect places.  Sorry Rena.  Sorry Kitchen.  Rena was awfully nonchalant about it, which I appreciated.  Even Andra noticed, because she wrote a thank you to Reno and wrote "Thank you for not minding".

Sunday:  Andra and I rested, and the rest of the gang went out to do a little shopping and sightseeing.  We worked up, slowly, to getting ready for the wedding in the afternoon.  The wedding was lovely - the details were perfectly executed, and the weather near perfect.  It was the first wedding the girls have been to , and they behaved beautifully.  The bride and groom took a break in the middle of the ceremony to play guitar and sing a song, and it was a really special touch.  They planned it in 4 months, and you would never have known.  There were some really beautiful and unusual touches - and you could tell they all worked really hard on the details.  I was duly impressed.

Monday: And this morning, we left at the crack of dawn, and flew home.  When we lived in L.A., I remember every time we flew back to Tucson that when I got off the plane and walked out of the airport to the dry warm air, that I would just feel the slowing of time, as if the combined stress and frenetic pace of all the people in L.A. is catching, and it accelerates time.  This time, it took me until we were driving up our quiet tree lined street, but the feeling was the same.    Ah.  Home.

I would have liked this post better if your weekend wedding was the Tom & Katie wedding and you offered your readers some dishy celebrity gossip. But oh well, it sounds like a fun time anyway.

The way I look at is what can be worsethan throwing up--someone being mad or annoyed at you for doing it! We made a "memory", we'll be the "Hey Mom, remember the time I threw up at Rena & Bill's house?"
    Happy Thanksgiving! Rena
