On a lighter note

Generation T: 108 Ways to Transform a T-Shirt

On Saturday we tailgated and went to the U of A football game.  One of the things I like most about the football games is checking out how the girls are wearing their T shirts.  I am always surprised at something - that their bellies are hanging out (2002), that they are not hanging out (2003), that they now are wearing a long white undershirt that sticks out the bottom of the t shirt (2004-5).  But this weekend, it was all new, and it took me back.  The NEW style, it appears, is to rip the hell out of your T shirt, tie it all back together leaving gaps of skin in the back, or on the sides or over your cleavage.  While the showing skin part wouldn't have happened, my roommates and I, some 20 years ago when we were in college, were TOTALLY into clothing arts and crafts.  I am surprised we never figured out a way to perfect the torn up T.

We were somehow unable to connect our fascination with the arts and crafts clothing and our hostile attitudes to the fact that no one wanted to date us.  That's ok.  As my friend Jacki says, we were saving ourselves for our fabulous husbands.

So what did we wear out?  Well, we tie dyed, we rhinestoned, we bedazzled, and once we actually attached red bike reflectors to our t-shirts.  Jacki or Dawn made this totally cool black T with red reflectors - it was awesome.  I had a belt made out of soda machine tubing and connectors, and we all had jewelry made of strange and unusual things.  Dawn once gave me earrings made out of gold coin condoms.  Pretty AND practical.  Jacki gave me the coolest jean jacket with all kinds of little items and charms sewn on it - I loved that jacket, and I wore it all the time.

So I guess what I am saying is, that SO could have been us.  Heck, it still COULD be us.  There are several books on how to rip up and tie your T shirts back together - look out Jack.  Look out Dawn.  I wonder what will be under YOUR tree this Christmas...

Dang we are (were) cool. You didn't mention a little t-shirt/sewing styling you did a couple years ago; I still wear the cute t with the collar cut off and ribbon sewed in an x-pattern. Very stylish! Watch out project runway!!

I just found the rest of those reflectors in the bottom of my "sewing box" last weekend..........since I don't go to clubs anymore, maybe I'll hot glue them to the butt of my riding tights.........nah, bad idea........
