Whole Lotta Loving

This weekend, I finally got around to sewing the binding on Tom's quilt (My father in law). True Lover's Knot, from the Quiltmaker's Gift. The girls helped me pick the colors, match the colors, layout the pieces and add lots of love. Whenever we make a quilt for someone else, I talk to the girls about all the love we are sewing in to it, maybe just to guilt them into continuing to help me, because they really are a lot of help. Especially since with this one, I also made a king size quilt for Valla (my mother in law) of the same pattern and there are so many pieces I thought we would never finish. When I finished the top and had it folded up on my bed to take to the quilter, I came in and Andra had unfolded it and was wrapped up in it. When I asked her, rather crankily, what she was doing, she said she was just giving it some extra love for Pop Pop. What a girl.
I am just glad I found the time, since in spite of the fact that if you ask me I will probably say we didn't do anything this weekend, here is what we did:
Went for a walk.
Had ice cream for dinner, at Swenson's, at 7:45 on Friday night - we took Phil's new truck for a joy ride and neither girl tattled on me (he was playing poker).
Had boots fitted - I am having boots fitted to my ridiculously small calves. The boot maker's brother suggested that instead maybe I should "Just do the exercise" to make my legs bigger.
Went to the mall - Spring has sprung, which in Tucson means new flip flops. 2 pair for $5 at Old Navy - Silver for Grace, Black for Andra.
Had a pool party (see yesterday's entry) and got a respectable sunburn again. The girls wore sunscreen.
Got a manicure and pedicure for the first time in months. Color - You Rock-Apulco Red.
Took the girls to Grammy's for an evening out. They went to the movies and back to the mall. Grammy spoiled them rotten until I picked them up at 10:30 PM. (Grammy is Valla)
Made a bucket of cosmos to share with Polly and Michelle before we joined half of Southern Arizona at the Casino of the Sun. All those other people gambled, we went to the drag show where the guy who cuts our hair was hosting. It was fabulous - Michelle found the haircut she wants, but unfortunately it was on a wig, on Eric (the guy who cuts our hair). Polly found Michelle and I are horribly out of practice at dressing flashy to go out - so we decided we need more practice and a little shopping trip to prepare. I found the Wheel of Fortune (I know the guy who is the boss of the brand - Go Boris! and I try and give my money to him if I am going to give it away). I didn't win (Damn Boris).
Did some serious spring cleaning, including air vents, window tracts, the girls' rooms. Decided I really miss Esther, our cleaning lady who comes every 2 weeks. She can't come this week. After spending hours cleaning, dismissed the notion that it is important to clean your own house to build character.
Used my best cleaning friend - the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to confirm my fears - the girls are growing. The line of hand prints and smears along every wall is definitely higher now (and consequently much easier on my back).
Went for a bike ride, and to Walmart, and watched TV and on and on.
And in spite of all of this, I still had several stretches of time where I thought - "OK, what am I going to do now?" Still adjusting to all this free time, how do people do it?
