To each his own

My kids will never eat peas at home.  Not because they don't like them, but because I don't like them.  I don't feed my kids things I don't like, and I have been accused of not buying or fixing things I don't like as well.  Last year someone asked me how Phil liked his bacon (they were cooking, it wasn't just passing conversation).  I honestly didn't know.  I like it crunchy, so that's how I make it.  Seems like the kind of thing I should know about Phil after 13 or 14 years.  Since then, I am (partially) dedicated to trying to be more open and thoughtful, I am.

Today we went to Trader Joes, and the free sample lured the girls in.  It was vanana yogurt (a mysterious cross between Vanilla and Banana) with hemp granola and dried berries.  Hemp granola?  Say serious.  Amazingly enough, the girls loved it.  Gracie was begging for more, and kept thanking the lady handing out the samples.  I would never eat that.  I don't like banana flavored things, and again, hemp granola?  Anything that has dedicated the entire back of the box to a discussion of the complete lack of THC in this type of cannabis shouldn't end up in my cart.  However, I bought it, and the girls ate it again for lunch. Andra also begged to buy soy milk, since she had it at a friend's house, and I bought that too. I am glad they aren't as picky as I was, and I am glad they are adventurous eaters.

I guess it is just always surprising to me when they are not like me.  They came from me, shouldn't they be more like me? Tonight we ate artichokes, and potato gnocchi with organic vodka sauce.  Phil and I drank wine, and the girls had "milk mix" (half regular soy milk half chocolate soy milk).  I guess I should just be glad they are good eaters - who knows, maybe I will find out I am a more adventurous eater than I thought, too.  I'll try to find out once the hemp granola is all gone.  I swear.

I have a hard time making things for the kids that I don't like too... but I also don't make things that Marty doesn't like, or Sophie can't eat. All for one, I say.

I made salmon last night, thinking that everyone would like it. Both of the kids like good 'ol fish fillets and also liked tilapia. Martin refused to eat it (saying it smelled gross) and Sophie wiped it off her tongue like a cartoon character eating poison.

    Hemp granola? Is it good?

I think I made it clear I am not trying it. I will see if I can get Phil to try it and have him tell you.
